Project Description: The project aimed at improving municipal solid waste management
within the country by procurement of waste collection vehicles,
closing open dumps, constructing of sanitary landfills, building
the capacity of municipalities and promoting public sector
participation. The project was put on hold at several occasions
(political reasons and NIMBY syndrome) and its budget was
reduced from US$55 million to US$25 million. The project realized
the construction of Zahle landfill, the rehabilitation of
the Tripoli waste disposal site and the procurement of collection
vehicles and containers for various municipalities.
