Project Description:
A METAP diagnostic assessment conducted in eight Mashreq and
Maghreb countries identified a rapidly growing generation
of waste that, aside from environmental concerns, is causing
significant strains on national resources.
Accordingly, consultation is being provided within a framework
of Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) to:
The project is structured around the: creation of a center
of excellence to support the coordination of ISWM in the region;
identification of regional options and strategies, and their
initial application; and capacity development in all aspects
of ISWM.
Services:
Activities covering Lebanon and Syria include: preparation
of country reports, case studies, guidelines on institutional
strengthening, communication and awareness, cost recovery,
and private sector participation; exchange of expertise; and
preparation of terms of references for national activities
and subsequent supervision of related works.
