Project Description: Reclamation of an open solid waste dump covering an area
of 10,000 square meters and containing approximately 40,000
cubic meters of waste of various sources (domestic, industrial,
hospital and construction waste) into a green area.
Services:
Site characterization, design and execution of site rehabilitation.
Initial phase consisted of site characterization, risk assessment
especially that of groundwater contamination and exposure
to landfill gas, legal assessment and feasibility studies
related to investigating/costing various mitigation measures.
Second phase included developing project documentation, detailed
costing and solicitation of funds. Third phase include the
design and execution of closure plans and implementation
of a monitoring scheme. The closure included earth moving,
installation of a capping system that included geotextile
layers, gravel and clay layers (for gas and water containment
and routing), design and installation of a bio-filter for
landfill gas and odor management and monitoring program (also
including geology and hydrogeology, and water and air sample
collection and analyses).
