Project Description:
The dump
is located on the seashore at the southern entrance of Saida
city and according to a topographic study conducted by Saida
municipality in December 2004, the dump have a height of
around 32 m (from road level) at his southern part, a length
of 315 m along the seashore and a width of 80 m at his
northern part.
According to a study done by Bureau Stephan in March 2003,
Saida dump had a surface area of approximately 29,182 m2
and contained then around 431,530 m2 of waste.
Remediation works include: mobilization of waste processing
equipment and establishing a safe working environment,
excavation starting from the southern western side of the
dumpsite suspected to contain the oldest waste, sorting, and
biodegradation/composting of the soil-like material generated
at the sorting facility and screened for organic content.
The latter
will be used in the rehabilitation of a closed quarry used
currently for the unsanitary disposal of municipal solid waste
and has been considered by a government-appointed committee as
a possible location for the creation of a sanitary landfill.
Preparation of the site and operation of the project will be
the responsibility of South for Construction while the
municipality of Saida will be in charge of the location and
its partial hand-over to the contractor. Remediation works are
expected to be completed during a period of five years.
Services:

related to solid waste composition at the dumpsite, physical
