Project Description:
SICOMO SAL is one of the six
paper and cardboard recycling mills operating in Lebanon. The
facility, established in 1974, is located in Qabb Elias in the
West Bekaa within a 45,000 m² plot of land. The total built up
area of the facility is about 24,000m².
The facility is specialized
in the recycling of waste paper and cardboard into
cardboard, grey board, white board, and gold and silver
board products. The facility holds a class 1 industrial
permit and is located in a non-classified zone. The
environmental issues that were covered by this study
included production process and environmental management
practices (energy consumption, air emissions, water quality,
wastewater, solid waste generation, noise, odor and health
and safety measures).
Objectives: Promote good environmental management
by identifying areas that need improvement; evaluating
performance by monitoring energy consumption, water use and
waste production; reduction of operating costs; and ensuring
compliance with Lebanese laws, regulations, standards and
facility policy.
Services:
Diagnose and analyze different pollution loads created by the
production processes at the facility; study the production
processes (input, output and consumption of raw materials in
all the operational units); and collect water, wastewater,
noise (inside and outside the facility), and air samples for
analyses; prepare and formulate an action plan for continual
performance improvement, assess the significance of each
deficiency or pattern of deficiencies in the overall
functioning of the control system; evaluate the effectiveness
of management control systems; and develop recommendations to
minimize possible problems on the environment.
